March 17th: Bentley University and Boston College

Bentley University:

We arrived at Bentley University in the morning, where an admission officer and a student gave us a presentation. According to their introduction, students study core subjects during their first year, and then choose their major starting from their sophomore year. In addition to the core curriculum, students can flexibly choose their major, minor, and electives, which allows them to study what they are truly interested in.

I also learned that students start exploring their future early on, rather than waiting until their senior year. They can gain experience through internships and attend career fairs to discover what they are passionate about. Students can also consult with academic advisors about their career paths and job opportunities. In addition, Bentley offers more than 80 study abroad programs in over 25 countries, and more than 40% of students participate in them. I thought this system is very helpful for students to find their interests and prepare for their future.  Almost all graduates find full time employment or go back for graduate school.  The school campus was large and it feels like a welcoming community.

Boston College:

Visiting Boston college was very exciting and awesome. When I arrived there, I noticed how beautiful the campus was with many big, stone buildings and lots of green spaces. The tour guide was also an international student so it was helpful to hear their real life experiences. They made the school seem very friendly and welcoming. The emphasis on school spirit and thinking about how to use what you learn not only for your own future career but also to contribute positively to a community was interesting.

During the tour, we learned about the programs and clubs at the university. The guide talked about different majors, activities, and student organizations you can join. It was interesting to hear how many options there are and how students can get involved. Like Bentley, the first year at Boston College has you take classes in a number of subjects to get experience in other courses before declaring a major. It was a great visit.
